The RUST-OLEUM 249415 is a sandable spray primer formulated to create a rust-inhibitive base coat for automotive finishing applications. This 12 oz aerosol delivers a gray-tinted primer layer that bonds to bare metal and prepares surfaces for topcoats including most automotive lacquers and enamels. Once applied, the dried film sands smooth to help achieve a clean, even finish before painting. Coverage reaches up to 15 square feet per can. Licensed trade painters, body shop technicians, and experienced automotive DIYers typically reach for this primer as a first-stage surface prep product.
This primer is suited for automotive bodywork where a rust-inhibitive base is required before applying lacquer or enamel topcoats. It is commonly used on steel body panels, brackets, and metal surfaces that have been cleaned and prepped prior to paint. The gray tone provides good contrast for evaluating surface flatness after block sanding. The aerosol format makes it practical for spot repairs and smaller panel work where spray equipment is not available.
Designed for use as a primer base coat under most brands of automotive lacquers and enamels on metal surfaces.
Application should be performed in a well-ventilated area away from open flame or ignition sources, as aerosol propellants are flammable. Surface must be clean, dry, and free of grease, rust scale, and loose paint before priming. Shake the can thoroughly before use and apply in light, even passes to avoid runs. Allow the primer coat to dry fully before block sanding and follow the topcoat manufacturer's recoat window guidelines.
