The RUST-OLEUM 238752 is a water-based, direct-to-metal (DTM) acrylic enamel coating formulated for superior corrosion and humidity resistance on metal surfaces. Available in white with a semi-gloss finish, this single-component system applies directly to prepared metal without a separate primer step, reducing labor time on the job. It contains low VOCs, low HAPs, and low solvent odor, making it well suited for schools, food-processing facilities, and other occupied or ventilated-sensitive environments. The formula dries to the touch in 30 minutes and produces a smooth, washable finish that holds color over time. Licensed applicators and painting contractors working on metal substrates will find this coating practical for both interior and exterior applications.
This coating is designed for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces, including galvanized steel and aluminum. It performs in both interior and exterior environments, making it a practical choice for HVAC equipment housings, structural steel, ductwork exteriors, metal doors, railings, and similar trade applications. The low-odor, water-based formula is particularly suited to occupied buildings, schools, and food-adjacent settings where solvent-heavy coatings are not practical. It meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact, expanding its usability in commercial kitchen and food-processing environments.
Formulated for direct-to-metal application on galvanized steel, aluminum, and other prepared metal substrates for interior and exterior use. For maximum performance, use with MetalMax DTM Acrylic Enamel Primer as a system.
Surface preparation is critical before application — remove loose rust, mill scale, grease, and contaminants per standard metal coating practice. Power down any electrical equipment housed in or near the work area before coating metal enclosures or panels. Apply using brush, roller, or spray equipment rated for water-based coatings, and follow local VOC regulations and applicable building codes for coating applications in commercial or institutional settings. Allow adequate dry time between coats and before returning equipment or surfaces to service.
