The smz8 is a direct replacement for the Russound MCA-88 (ADI part RD-MCA88, model numbers 1550-536359 and MCA-88). It is designed as an upgrade-path replacement for Russound whole-home audio controller installations built around that earlier platform.
Installation of the smz8 should be performed by a licensed low-voltage or audio systems technician familiar with multi-zone audio distribution equipment. Disconnect all power to the system before removing any existing controller or making speaker and source connections. Follow applicable local low-voltage wiring codes and the manufacturer wiring diagram for source, zone, and control bus connections. Verify all zone speaker impedance loads meet the amplifier requirements before applying power.
