The ROTOR CLIP SH-50ST ZD is an external retaining ring designed to seat in a machined groove on a 1/2-inch shaft, providing positive axial retention of components without the need for threads, pins, or welding. Manufactured from SAE 1060-1090 carbon steel and finished with a yellow zinc dichromate coating for corrosion resistance, this ring measures 0.468 inches in groove diameter and 0.035 inches in ring thickness. Hardness is rated at 66-71 HRC, making it suitable for applications that demand consistent spring-back and reliable seating under load. Machinists, assemblers, and maintenance technicians working in industrial and mechanical assembly environments install this type of ring using standard snap-ring pliers.
This external retaining ring is used wherever a shaft-mounted component must be locked axially in place, including gear assemblies, motor shafts, pump impeller stacks, conveyor systems, and general mechanical subassemblies. It fits shafts with a nominal diameter of 1/2 inch (0.500 inches) and is intended for installation into a groove with a width of 0.039 inches and a depth of 0.016 inches. The zinc dichromate finish provides a baseline level of corrosion protection suitable for indoor or lightly protected environments. This part is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 100 units, making it appropriate for production or MRO stocking programs.
Designed for use on 1/2-inch diameter shafts (0.500 inches nominal) requiring an external retaining ring groove with a width of 0.039 inches and a depth of 0.016 inches per SAE and UNS G10600-G10900 groove specifications.
Installation requires external snap-ring pliers sized for a 1/2-inch shaft ring. Verify that the shaft groove dimensions match the ring specifications before installation, and inspect the groove for burrs or damage that could prevent proper seating. De-energize and lock out any machinery before servicing components retained by this ring. Do not over-spread the ring during installation, as exceeding the elastic limit of the material will compromise retention force and require ring replacement.
