The ROTOR CLIP SH-28SS is an external retaining ring engineered for shaft retention on shafts with a 9/32-inch (0.2813-inch decimal) diameter. Manufactured from 15-7 Grade 632 stainless steel to AMS-5529 and UNS S15700 standards, this ring delivers high hardness in the 69.5 to 73 HRC range, making it suitable for demanding mechanical assemblies where wear resistance and dimensional stability matter. A zinc finish adds a layer of corrosion protection. It is installed into a precision-cut groove on the outside of a shaft and is used by mechanical assemblers, maintenance technicians, and industrial tradespeople working across rotating equipment and fastener-critical assemblies.
This ring fits applications requiring tight groove tolerances on small-diameter shafts. With a groove diameter of 0.261 inches and a groove width of 0.029 inches, it is suited for precision shaft assemblies in industrial machinery, instrumentation, and mechanical drive components. The free outside diameter of 0.49 inches and ring thickness of 0.025 inches allow it to seat securely in properly machined grooves. It meets ISO 13485:2015 standards, making it appropriate for controlled manufacturing environments where documented quality standards are required.

Installation requires external retaining ring pliers sized for small-diameter rings. The shaft groove must be machined to the specified dimensions before ring installation. Always relieve shaft load and power down rotating equipment before servicing retaining rings. Avoid over-spreading the ring during installation, as this can exceed the material elastic limit and compromise retention force.
