The ROMAC 351-00 is a portable tapping drilling machine designed for making live taps on pressurized underground water mains. Weighing 10 pounds, it is light enough for single-person handling in the field. The unit handles pipe capacity from 3/4 inch up to 2 inches and is rated for system pressures up to 150 psi. A built-in safety brake provides controlled boring bar release during high-pressure cuts, reducing risk of sudden bar ejection. The boring bar travel exceeds 12 inches, accommodating a range of tap depths. Simple internal construction supports in-house maintenance without specialized tooling. Licensed plumbers and water utility crews are the primary installers.
The 351-00 is suited for residential and light commercial service line connections on pressurized water distribution systems. It is used in underground utility work where the main must remain live during the tap. Compatible pipe materials include cast iron, ductile iron, PVC, and steel pipe — the four most common materials found in water main infrastructure. The machine is finished in black and ships as a single-tool unit.
Compatible with cast iron pipe, ductile iron pipe, PVC pipe, and steel pipe commonly used in underground water main installations with pipe sizes ranging from 3/4 inch to 2 inches.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or water utility technicians following applicable local plumbing codes and AWWA guidelines. Verify that system pressure does not exceed the 150 psi rating before commencing the tap. Inspect the boring bar and safety brake mechanism before each use. Follow the manufacturer's operating procedure for engaging and releasing the boring bar under pressure to prevent uncontrolled ejection.
