The ROBERT LARSON 705-0800 is an 800-grit water stone designed for sharpening blades, chisels, plane irons, and other edged tools to a refined working edge. Built to Japanese sharpening-stone specifications, this stone removes material quickly while still producing a clean, controlled edge surface. At 800 grit, it serves as a coarse-to-medium starting point in a progressive sharpening sequence. Before first use, soak the stone in water for a minimum of 30 minutes. After that initial soak, the stone can remain submerged in water indefinitely without damage. It is sold individually and weighs 2.33 pounds.
This water stone is suited for woodworkers, finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, and tradespeople who maintain hand tools on the job. The 800-grit designation places it at the beginning of a progressive sharpening process. Use it to establish a bevel, repair a damaged edge, or refresh a dull tool before moving to finer grits such as 1000, 4000, or 6000. It is appropriate for use on bench chisels, hand-plane blades, carving tools, and similar edged equipment.
Designed as a coarse-to-medium sharpening stone for use with standard bench chisels, hand-plane blades, and other flat-beveled edged tools commonly used in woodworking and finish carpentry applications.
Soak the stone in clean water for at least 30 minutes before the first sharpening session. Keep the stone wet throughout use, adding water as needed to maintain a slurry on the surface. Work from coarser grits to finer grits in sequence for best edge results. Do not use oil on this stone — it is a water stone only and oil will contaminate the surface.
