The ROBBJACK XG-400-12 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 3/8-inch diameter with a 1/2-inch length of cut and a corner radius range of 0.023 to 0.025 inches, making it suited for producing smooth, consistent corner breaks on finished surfaces. The 4-flute geometry with a variable flute design and right-hand helix supports efficient chip evacuation and reduced chatter. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in high-temperature cutting conditions. This tool is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments are the primary users of this tool.
The XG-400-12 belongs to the ROBBJACK XG-400 Series, a stub-length line optimized for rigidity in tight-clearance setups. The stub configuration minimizes deflection during aggressive cuts in steel, stainless, and similar ferrous alloys. The 3/8-inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter for straightforward toolholder compatibility. With a 2-1/2-inch overall length, it fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Fine-pitch flute spacing supports smooth surface finishes in finish-pass operations.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide corner radius end mill for use in standard 3/8-inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and hydraulic toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured with proper torque to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before operation. Inspect the collet or holder bore for runout before seating the tool, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a fine-radius end mill. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during tool changes.
