The ROBBJACK STR-404-08-C is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.25 inch cutting diameter, a 0.75 inch length of cut, and a 2.5 inch overall length with a 0.25 inch shank diameter. The TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life in demanding cutting conditions. With 4 flutes and a 30-degree helix angle, this end mill provides efficient chip evacuation and a smooth finish. It is centercutting, allowing it to plunge directly into the workpiece. Machinists and CNC operators use this tool for slotting, profiling, and contouring operations.
The STR-404-08-C belongs to the ROBBJACK STR-404 series, a regular-length end mill line suited for general-purpose milling in job shop and production environments. The fine pitch flute design and right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration make it compatible with standard CNC machining centers and manual mills. It performs well in a wide range of materials including alloy steels, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum where a coated carbide tool is appropriate. The single-end design means the tool is replaced rather than indexed when worn.
Designed as a standard shank end mill fitting any tool holder or collet accepting a 0.25 inch shank, including ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit holders commonly used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with CNC or manual milling operations. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is off before installing or removing any end mill. Seat the shank to the minimum recommended grip depth per the tool holder manufacturer guidelines - typically no less than the shank diameter. Inspect the collet, holder bore, and tool shank for chips or damage before clamping to avoid runout issues.
