The ROBBJACK SS-2-017 is a solid carbide square end mill built for precision micro-milling applications. With a 0.017-inch cutting diameter and a 0.0255-inch length of cut, this tool handles tight-tolerance work in hardened and difficult-to-machine materials. The 2-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation at small diameters. The Tuffy material grade solid carbide substrate provides the rigidity and wear resistance needed when working at this scale. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank, it fits standard collet setups. Machinists and toolmakers performing detail milling, slotting, and profiling operations at micro scales are the primary users of this tool.
The SS-2-017 is suited for precision milling in metalworking, mold and die, medical device, and electronics manufacturing environments. Its stub-length design minimizes deflection when machining small features in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, expanding the range of operations this tool can perform in a single setup. It is designed for use on CNC machining centers and high-speed spindle setups capable of the elevated RPMs required for 0.017-inch diameter tooling.
Designed for use with standard 1/8-inch collet systems on CNC machining centers and high-speed spindle platforms requiring micro-diameter square end mills in the ROBBJACK SS-2 series.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, powered-down state. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully and evenly in the collet before tightening to ensure concentricity and minimize runout. At this diameter, even minor runout or collet contamination can cause tool breakage. Verify spindle speed and feed rate parameters against published cutting data for 0.017-inch carbide tooling before engaging the cut.
