The ROBBJACK MDM-201-12 is a solid carbide ball end mill engineered for die and mold machining in hard materials. Part of the MDM-201 series, this single-end mill features a 12 mm (0.4724 inches) cutting diameter with a full ball nose radius of 6 mm, a 2-flute helical geometry at a 30-degree helix angle, and a 12 mm length of cut. The straight cylindrical shank matches the cutting diameter at 12 mm, and the overall length measures 100 mm. Intended for right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction, this tool is suited for both roughing and finishing passes in hard-material applications. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this tooling.
The MDM-201-12 is designed for use in hard workpiece materials, classified under material code H, making it appropriate for hardened steels, tool steels, and similar alloys commonly found in die and mold production environments. The extended-length designation provides additional reach for cavity and contour work. This is a metric-dimensioned tool with a 12 mm shank, compatible with standard ER and milling chucks sized for 12 mm straight cylindrical shanks. It is well suited to CNC machining centers performing 3-axis and multi-axis die and mold work where precise ball-nose profiling is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers requiring a 12 mm solid carbide ball end mill in the MDM-201 extended-length die and mold series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before tool changes, confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state per the machine tool manufacturer lockout procedure. Use a properly sized collet or milling chuck to achieve adequate gripping length on the 12 mm shank; insufficient engagement reduces rigidity and accelerates tool wear. Verify runout at the cutting end with a dial indicator after installation before initiating a cut.
