The RITEN 74093 is a carbide-tipped solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and machining fixtures where a fixed, non-rotating support point is required. The center features a Brown and Sharpe No. 9 taper shank for positive seating in compatible spindles and headstocks. The carbide-tipped point provides extended wear resistance compared to all-steel designs, making it well suited to high-speed or abrasive turning operations. With a head diameter of 1.078 inches and a 6.5-inch overall length, this is a full-size center built for production turning environments. Runout accuracy is held to 0.00005 inches, supporting close-tolerance work on mill or lathe setups.
This dead center is intended for use in metalworking machine shops, toolrooms, and production turning cells. It is installed in the tailstock or a fixed spindle to support the free end of a workpiece during turning, grinding, or milling operations. The carbide tip handles intermittent contact with hardened or abrasive workpieces without rapid degradation. Installation and use are typical for machinist trades operating manual or CNC lathes equipped with B&S 9 taper receivers.
Designed for use in lathe tailstocks and fixed spindles with a Brown and Sharpe No. 9 taper bore. Confirm taper size and bore condition before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard lathe setup procedures. Power down and lockout the machine before inserting or removing the center from the tailstock spindle. Ensure the B&S 9 taper bore is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the center to maintain accuracy. When using a solid dead center, apply appropriate lubricant to the workpiece center hole to reduce heat buildup at the contact point during cutting.
