The RITEN 71054 is a carbide-tipped steel half dead center designed for use in lathe and turning operations where the workpiece end face must remain accessible during machining. The half-center configuration removes material from one side of the point, allowing cutting tools to work close to the center axis without interference. Built on a 5MT Morse taper shank, this center seats securely in the tailstock of a manual or CNC lathe. The carbide-tipped point delivers long service life under continuous contact pressure, and the 1.748-inch head diameter suits medium-to-large workpieces. Accuracy is held to 0.00005 inches, making this center appropriate for precision turning work.
This center is intended for use in machine shop environments where facing, turning, or boring operations require unobstructed access to the part centerline. It fits tailstocks bored to accept a 5MT Morse taper shank. Typical users include machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on shafts, spindles, and similar cylindrical workpieces in production or job-shop settings. The 8.5-inch overall length provides clearance in deeper tailstock bores while keeping the point within reach of standard tool paths.
Designed for use in lathe tailstocks equipped with a Number 5 Morse taper bore. Suitable for manual engine lathes and CNC turning centers with 5MT tailstock receivers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and bring the lathe spindle to a full stop before seating or removing the center. Clean the Morse taper bore and shank contact surfaces before insertion to ensure full engagement and accurate seating. Use a proper drift bar and mallet against the knockout slot to remove the center from the tailstock bore; never pry against the point or head.
