The RITEN 71033 is a carbide-tipped steel solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and similar machine tool applications. Built to a 3MT Morse taper shank, it seats securely and provides a rigid, non-rotating support point for precision turning operations. The carbide-tipped point delivers extended wear life compared to all-steel centers, maintaining accuracy through high-speed and high-load cutting cycles. With a published accuracy of 0.00005 inches, this center is suited for applications where runout tolerance is critical. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers and users of this type of tooling.
The RITEN 71033 is used in metal cutting environments where a workpiece must be supported at the tailstock end during turning, facing, or grinding operations. Its standard point style makes it appropriate for center-drilled workpieces following standard 60-degree center drill geometry. The solid dead center construction means the point does not rotate with the workpiece, making it best suited for lower-speed applications or where the workpiece is lubricated at the contact point. Typical installations are found in manual engine lathes, turret lathes, and toolroom grinding machines.
Designed for use in machine tool tailstocks and headstocks with a No. 3 Morse taper (3MT) bore. Fits standard 3MT spindle sockets on engine lathes and grinding machines.
Installation is performed by machine tool operators or toolroom machinists. Before inserting or removing a Morse taper center, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and de-energized. Clean the taper shank and bore of any chips, oil, or debris before seating to prevent fretting and ensure accurate alignment. Use a drift key through the knockout slot to eject the center cleanly; do not strike the center body directly. When using a dead center, apply appropriate cutting or lubricating fluid to the contact point to reduce heat buildup at the workpiece interface.
