The RITEN 71023 is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and other machine tool spindles that accept a 2MT Morse taper shank. Carbide-tipped steel construction provides hardness and wear resistance at the contact point, extending service life in turning applications where a live center is not required. The standard point geometry suits general-purpose workholding on round or center-drilled stock. At 4-3/16 inches overall length and a 0.7-inch head diameter, this center fits a wide range of manual and CNC lathes in job shop and production environments. Machinists and machine tool operators install and remove it without special tooling.
This solid dead center is used in manual lathe tailstocks, mill-turn centers, and any spindle bored to accept a 2MT Morse taper. It is suited for low-speed or stationary-workpiece setups where the center does not rotate with the part. Typical applications include cylindrical turning, between-centers grinding setups, and inspection work where a fixed center point is needed. The carbide tip handles moderate thrust loads and abrasive contact better than unhardened steel alternatives.
Designed for use in any lathe tailstock or machine tool spindle bored to accept a 2MT Morse taper. Verify spindle taper size before installation.
Power down and lock out the lathe before inserting or removing the center. Clean the Morse taper bore and the taper shank thoroughly before seating to ensure proper contact and prevent fretting. Insert the center with a firm push to seat the taper; use a standard drift key through the knockout slot to eject it cleanly. Because this is a solid dead center, apply appropriate cutting fluid or grease to the work contact point when turning to reduce heat buildup at the tip.
