The RITEN 71022 is a standard point half dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and machining centers where access to the workpiece face is required. Machined from hardened tool steel, it mounts via a 2MT Morse taper shank and delivers a runout accuracy of 0.00005 inches, making it suitable for precision turning operations. With a 0.7-inch head diameter and 0.7-inch point diameter, and an overall length of 4.1875 inches, the 71022 provides the clearance needed to perform facing, boring, and threading operations near the end of a workpiece without obstruction from a full-diameter center.
This half dead center is intended for use in manual and CNC lathes equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper tailstock. It is a standard production and toolroom item used by machinists and toolmakers in both job shop and production environments. The open half-center profile gives the cutting tool direct access to the workpiece center, which is the primary reason this style is specified over a full live or dead center when face work is required at the tailstock end.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation half dead center for lathes and machining centers equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper tailstock bore.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before inserting or removing the center from the tailstock. Clean the Morse taper bore and the shank with a dry cloth before seating to ensure full contact and accurate alignment. Use the tailstock ejector rod against the 0.572-inch knockout diameter to remove the center without damage to the taper surfaces.
