The RITEN 71021 is a solid dead center designed for use in lathes and turning centers where the workpiece rotates against a stationary point. Machined from hardened tool steel, this center accepts a 2MT Morse taper shank and delivers a standard point style with a head diameter of 0.7 inches and an overall length of 4.187 inches. The 71021 holds an accuracy rating of 0.00005 inches, making it suitable for precision turning applications where runout control is critical. Machinists and tool-room technicians use solid dead centers when a rigid, non-rotating support point is required at the tailstock or between centers.
This center is applied in manual and CNC lathe setups for turning, grinding, and between-centers work across light to medium workloads. The 2MT shank fits standard tailstocks and headstocks equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper socket. The standard point geometry suits general-purpose turning of steel, aluminum, and similar materials. Point-to-gauge-line length of 1.625 inches provides consistent positioning reference during setup. No carbide tip is present, so this center is best suited for applications where the workpiece or fixture rotates rather than the center itself.
Designed as an OEM-style solid dead center for lathes and turning centers equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper tailstock or headstock socket.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool-room technicians. Ensure the lathe is powered down and the spindle is fully stopped before inserting or removing the center from the taper socket. Clean the taper bore and shank of any chips or oil film before seating to ensure full contact and accurate alignment. Use the knockout bar through the tailstock bore to remove the center cleanly without damage to the taper surfaces.
