The RITEN 68924 is a carbide-tipped steel solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and other machine tool applications requiring precise, stationary workpiece support. Featuring a 4MT Morse taper shank and a long-point tip geometry, this center holds a 60-degree included angle and delivers accuracy to 0.00005 inches. The carbide-tipped full dead center construction resists wear at the contact point, making it suitable for high-speed turning operations where a rotating live center is not practical. It weighs 1.95 pounds and is built for demanding production and toolroom environments.
This dead center is suited for metalworking lathes and cylindrical grinding machines in both production shops and toolrooms. It is typically installed in the tailstock or headstock spindle of machines accepting a No. 4 Morse taper. Applications include turning between centers, grinding operations, and any setup requiring a fixed, non-rotating center point. The long-point style provides extended reach for workpieces requiring deeper center engagement.
Designed for use in lathe tailstocks and machine tool spindles accepting a No. 4 Morse taper (4MT) shank. Suitable for metalworking lathes and cylindrical grinders configured for dead center operation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the center from the spindle. Clean the Morse taper bore and the shank thoroughly before seating to ensure full contact and prevent fretting. Use a proper drift punch in the spindle ejector slot to remove the center - do not strike the exposed carbide tip directly.
