The RITEN 68114 is a solid dead center designed for lathe and turning operations where a fixed, non-rotating center point is required. Built from steel with a long-point profile, this dead center seats into a 4MT Morse taper spindle or tailstock and provides a rigid reference point for workpiece support. The head diameter measures 0.5 inches, the point length is 2 inches, and overall length is 2.625 inches. Accuracy is rated at 0.00005 inches, making it appropriate for precision turning applications where runout and deflection must be minimized. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the typical end users.
This solid dead center is used in metalworking environments where the workpiece rotates against a stationary center point. It is suited for light to moderate turning operations on manual engine lathes and manual tailstock setups that accept a 4MT taper. The long-point geometry allows clearance in bored or chamfered workpieces and is commonly selected when standard-length centers lack sufficient reach into the part.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit solid dead center for lathes and turning centers equipped with a Number 4 Morse taper tailstock or spindle bore.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or machine tool technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe before seating or removing the center. Clean the Morse taper bore and the center shank thoroughly before insertion to ensure full contact and prevent false seating. When running a solid dead center, apply appropriate cutting lubricant to the workpiece center hole to reduce heat buildup at the contact point, as the center does not rotate with the part.
