The RITEN 68105 is a solid dead center designed for precision lathe work and cylindrical grinding applications. Machined from steel with a long-point configuration, this dead center mounts via a 5MT Morse taper shank and holds workpieces firmly between centers during turning or grinding operations. The head diameter measures 7/8 inch with an accuracy rating of 0.00005 inch, making it well suited for close-tolerance work. At 4.25 pounds, it is built for durability in production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and machine tool technicians are the typical installers for this type of tooling component.
This center is used in manual and CNC lathes as well as cylindrical grinders equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper tailstock or spindle bore. The long-point geometry extends reach for workpieces that require deeper engagement or have restricted access near the tailstock. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where a fixed center is acceptable and workpiece rotation relative to the center is not required. It fits standard 5MT tailstock and spindle applications found in mid-size to large industrial machine tools.
Designed as an OEM-style solid dead center for machine tools equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper tailstock or spindle bore, including mid-size to large engine lathes and cylindrical grinding machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or machine tool technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the center from the tailstock or spindle. Clean the Morse taper bore and the taper shank thoroughly before insertion to ensure full contact and accurate seating. Dead centers generate heat at the workpiece contact point during rotation, so apply appropriate lubricant to the center point and inspect for wear regularly during extended runs.
