The RITEN 68103 is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and headstocks where a fixed, non-rotating center point is required. Built from steel with a long point configuration, this center seats into a 3MT Morse taper shank and delivers a head diameter of 0.5 inches with a point length of 2 inches. The long point geometry provides clearance in tight turning operations and is well suited to precision turning applications where runout tolerance is critical. Accuracy is rated at 0.00005 inches, making it appropriate for close-tolerance work in production and toolroom environments. Machinists and lathe operators install this type of center when a rigid, non-rotating support point is needed at the tailstock end of a workpiece.
This solid dead center is used in manual and CNC lathe operations across job shop, toolroom, and light manufacturing settings. The 3MT Morse taper shank fits standard tailstocks and headstock spindles sized for No. 3 Morse taper. The long point style suits applications involving workpieces with center-drilled holes where extended reach or clearance from the chuck or fixture is beneficial. Installation is performed by machinists as part of standard workholding setup.
Designed for use in lathe tailstocks and headstocks accepting a No. 3 Morse taper shank. Confirm taper size against your machine spindle specification before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists during workholding setup. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before seating or removing the center from the taper. Insert the Morse taper shank firmly into the tailstock or headstock bore, ensuring full seating to prevent movement under load. Dead centers require lubrication at the contact point with the workpiece center hole to reduce heat buildup during cutting; use an appropriate center lubricant rated for the cutting speed and material being turned.
