The RITEN 66901 is a solid dead center designed for lathe and turning operations where the workpiece rotates against a fixed point. Constructed from special carbide, this bull nose dead center mounts via a 3MT Morse taper shank, providing a secure and repeatable seat in the tailstock or headstock of a lathe. The bull nose point style supports hollow or tubular workpieces, distributing contact load across a broader surface rather than a single point. Weighing 3 pounds, it is a substantial, durable tool suited for production and maintenance turning work performed by machinists and tool room technicians.
This dead center is used in metalworking lathes requiring a 3MT Morse taper interface. The bull nose geometry makes it particularly useful when supporting pipe, tubing, or other hollow stock from the tailstock end. The solid carbide construction resists wear under continuous contact with rotating workpieces, making it appropriate for high-cycle production environments as well as general machine shop use. The 0.5 inch head diameter and 0.5 inch gage line clearance suit a range of standard workpiece bores.
Designed for use in lathes and turning centers equipped with a No. 3 Morse taper tailstock or headstock socket.
Dead centers are installed and removed by a qualified machinist following standard lathe operating procedures. Power down and lock out the lathe before seating or removing the center from the taper socket. Use a proper drift and mallet to break the taper seat when removal is required - never apply side force to the shank. Because this is a solid dead center, the workpiece must be lubricated at the contact point to reduce heat buildup during rotation.
