The RITEN 66602 is a solid dead center with a bull nose point design, manufactured from hardened tool steel for durability and dimensional stability under load. It mounts via a 2MT Morse taper shank and features a head diameter of 2.125 inches, a point diameter of 0.969 inches, and a point length of 0.969 inches. The tip diameter measures 1.000 inch and accuracy is held to 0.0001 inches. This type of dead center is used in lathe and turning applications where the workpiece rotates around the stationary center point. Machinists and tool room technicians install and service these components.
The RITEN 66602 is suited for lathe tailstock applications in machine shop environments. The bull nose profile accommodates workpieces with center-drilled ends, distributing contact across a broader surface than a standard 60-degree point. The 2MT Morse taper shank fits standard tailstock quills sized for a No. 2 Morse taper, which is common on bench lathes and mid-size engine lathes. This center is intended for static use; the workpiece revolves on the fixed point, making it appropriate for lower-speed operations or applications where a live center is not required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new-installation dead center for lathe tailstocks accepting a No. 2 Morse taper (2MT) shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool room personnel. Power down and lock out the lathe before inserting or removing the center from the tailstock quill. Clean the taper bore and shank with a lint-free cloth before seating to ensure full contact and concentricity. For solid dead center use, apply appropriate cutting fluid or grease to the contact point to reduce heat and wear during operation.
