The RITEN 66502 is a solid dead center with a bull nose point style, designed for use in lathe tailstocks and machining fixtures where the workpiece rotates around a stationary center. Machined from hardened tool steel, this dead center accepts a 2MT (No. 2 Morse Taper) shank and features a 2.125-inch head diameter with a point diameter of 1.4 inches. The bull nose profile supports hollow or tubular workpieces by contacting the bore face rather than a center-drilled point. Accuracy is rated at 0.0001 inches, making it suitable for precision turning and grinding operations. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this part in manual and CNC lathes requiring a stationary tailstock support.
The RITEN 66502 is used in metalworking and machining environments, including job shops, tool rooms, and production turning operations. The bull nose dead center is particularly well suited for supporting hollow shafts, tubing, and bore-faced workpieces in both light-duty and moderate production scenarios. The 2MT shank fits standard No. 2 Morse Taper tailstock bores found on a wide range of bench and engine lathes. This center does not rotate with the workpiece, so it is typically used at lower spindle speeds or when the application does not require a live center.
Designed as an OEM-style solid dead center for lathes and machining fixtures equipped with a No. 2 Morse Taper (2MT) tailstock bore.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before installing, power down and bring the spindle to a complete stop. Clean the tailstock bore and the Morse taper shank thoroughly to remove chips, oil, and debris before seating the center - contamination will cause runout errors. Because this is a solid dead center, apply appropriate cutting lubricant to the workpiece contact area during use to reduce friction and heat at the interface.
