The RITEN 66105 is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and other machine tool applications requiring a fixed, non-rotating center point. Built from hardened tool steel, this center accepts a 5MT Morse taper shank and features a pipe nose point style suited for supporting hollow or tubular workpieces at the spindle end. The head diameter measures 3.5 inches, the point diameter measures 3.017 inches, and the overall length is 4.03 inches. Accuracy is held to 0.0001 inches, making it appropriate for precision turning operations. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or machine tool technicians.
This solid dead center is intended for use in metal turning and machining operations where the workpiece is supported at the tailstock end. The pipe nose point geometry is specifically suited for centering tubular or pipe-end stock, preventing the point from entering the bore while still locating the part accurately. The 5MT Morse taper shank fits standard tailstocks and spindles dimensioned for a number 5 Morse taper. It is commonly used in production and job-shop lathe setups handling larger-diameter workpieces.
Designed to fit machine tool tailstocks and spindles with a number 5 Morse taper (5MT) bore. Consult your machine tool documentation to confirm Morse taper size before installation.
Installation and removal of Morse taper centers should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use a properly sized drift bar and soft mallet to eject the center from the taper bore - never strike the center body directly. When using a solid dead center, apply an appropriate cutting or center lubricant to the workpiece contact area to reduce friction and heat buildup during long turning operations. Verify taper seating and center runout before beginning cuts.
