The RITEN 66104 is a solid dead center with a pipe nose point design, manufactured from hardened tool steel for use in lathe and turning applications. It mounts via a 4MT Morse taper shank and is intended for workholding in machine tool setups where a fixed, non-rotating center is required. With a head diameter of 2.75 inches, a point diameter of 2.37 inches, and a point length of 2.37 inches, this center is sized for larger-diameter workpieces. The pipe nose profile is specifically suited for centering hollow or pipe stock at the tailstock or headstock. Accuracy is rated at 0.0001 inches, making it appropriate for precision turning operations. Machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary installers.
This solid dead center is used in metalworking environments where pipe, tubing, or hollow cylindrical workpieces require support during turning operations. The pipe nose point geometry engages the interior bore of the workpiece rather than a center-drilled hole, which is the defining characteristic that separates this style from standard 60-degree dead centers. Typical applications include manual and CNC lathes equipped with 4MT tailstock or headstock spindles in both job-shop and production machining settings.
Designed for use in lathes and turning centers equipped with a No. 4 Morse taper (4MT) tailstock or headstock spindle bore. Suitable for centering hollow cylindrical workpieces, pipe, and tubing that cannot accept a standard center-drilled point.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool-room technicians. Power down and fully de-energize the lathe before inserting or removing the center from the spindle. Clean the Morse taper bore and the shank of the center thoroughly before seating to ensure full contact and accurate alignment. Do not force the taper with excessive hammer blows; use a drawbar or drift bar as appropriate for the machine design.
