The RITEN 66102 is a solid dead center with a pipe nose point, designed for use in lathe tailstocks and headstocks where a fixed, non-rotating center point is required. Machined from hardened tool steel and fitted with a 2MT Morse taper shank, this center provides rigid support for workpieces during turning and boring operations. The pipe nose point style is specifically shaped to seat inside pipe and tubing ends, providing stable contact without deforming the bore. The head diameter measures 2.125 inches, the point diameter is 1.831 inches, and the point length is 1.831 inches. Accuracy is held to 0.0001 inches. Installation and use are typical for machinist and toolroom applications requiring a precision dead center.
This solid dead center is suited for metal turning operations on manual and CNC lathes equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper spindle or tailstock. The pipe nose point geometry makes it the appropriate choice when supporting hollow workpieces such as pipe, tubing, and similar stock where a standard 60-degree point would not provide adequate contact or would damage the bore. Machinists, toolroom operators, and precision machine shops are the primary users of this type of center.
Designed for use in lathes and machine tool tailstocks or headstocks fitted with a No. 2 Morse taper (2MT) spindle bore.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before inserting or removing the center, power down the lathe and ensure the spindle has come to a complete stop. Clean the Morse taper shank and the receiving socket thoroughly before seating - debris or burrs will reduce accuracy and can damage the taper bore. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or center lubricant to the pipe nose contact point when supporting workpieces at elevated spindle speeds or under heavy cutting loads to reduce heat buildup and wear.
