The RITEN 17123 is a hardened tool steel lathe shank designed for use with live centers on manual and CNC lathes. It features a 3MT (Morse Taper 3) shank profile with an outside diameter of 1.116 inches and a runout accuracy of 0.0001 inches. The hardened tool steel construction provides resistance to wear and deformation under the repeated loading conditions common in turning operations. Machinists, tool and die makers, and lathe operators install this shank as an accessory to properly seat and secure live center assemblies in the tailstock or spindle.
This shank is suited for metal cutting applications in both production and job-shop environments where a No. 3 Morse Taper interface is required. It serves as the connecting component between the live center and the lathe tailstock, transmitting axial load while maintaining precise concentricity. Typical installations include general-purpose turning, between-center work, and shaft-turning operations on lathes equipped with a 3MT tailstock bore.
Designed for use with live centers requiring a No. 3 Morse Taper shank interface. Confirm tailstock bore taper size before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or lathe operators. Before installing, ensure the lathe is fully powered down and the spindle is locked or at rest. Clean the taper bore and shank mating surfaces thoroughly to remove chips, oil, and debris, as contamination directly affects seating accuracy and runout. Drive the shank into the tailstock bore using a soft-face mallet and verify secure seating before engaging the workpiece.
