The RENISHAW A-5003-2286 is a CMM ball stylus designed for coordinate measuring machine probing applications. It features a 5 mm ruby ball mounted on a carbon fiber stem with an M2 threaded connection. The ruby point provides high hardness and wear resistance, making it well suited for repeated contact measurements where dimensional accuracy is critical. Overall length is 50 mm, and the stem diameter measures 3 mm. This stylus is installed and serviced by metrology technicians and quality control professionals working with CMM systems in manufacturing and inspection environments.
This stylus is used in dimensional inspection setups where a small-diameter ruby ball is required for point-contact probing of machined parts, bores, and surfaces. The M2 thread connects to compatible Renishaw probe heads and stylus extensions. The 50 mm overall length suits moderate-reach applications where a shorter stylus would not access the feature geometry. Typical installations are found in production metrology labs, tool rooms, and quality inspection departments running CMM-based first-article or in-process inspection programs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit stylus for CMM probe systems accepting M2 threaded ball styli.
Installation is performed by qualified metrology technicians familiar with CMM probe systems. Power down or pause the CMM and retract the probe head before changing styli to prevent damage to the probe module or stylus. Use only finger-tight torque when threading the M2 connection to avoid stripping or misalignment. Calibrate the stylus with a reference sphere after installation before commencing measurement routines.
