The RENISHAW A-5003-0066 is a CMM ball stylus designed for coordinate measuring machine probing applications. It features a 5 mm ruby ball tip mounted on a ceramic stem with an M2 threaded connection. The overall length is 50 mm (approximately 1.969 inches), and the stem diameter measures 2.5 mm (approximately 0.098 inches). Ruby is the standard material choice for CMM contact points due to its hardness and dimensional stability. This stylus is installed by metrology technicians and CMM operators in dimensional inspection environments.
This stylus is suited for precision measurement tasks on coordinate measuring machines in manufacturing, quality control, and inspection departments. The M2 thread is a common interface on Renishaw-compatible probe heads and extension systems. Its 50 mm effective working length makes it appropriate for accessing recessed features, bores, and surfaces that require moderate stylus reach without excessive deflection. Typical applications include part qualification, first-article inspection, and in-process gauging in both production and tool-room settings.
Designed for use with CMM probe heads and extension systems that accept M2 threaded styli, consistent with Renishaw-compatible probing configurations.
CMM styli should be installed and torqued by qualified metrology personnel following the CMM manufacturer's recommended procedures. Always power down or pause the CMM and clear the probe path before changing styli. Avoid touching the ruby ball with bare hands, as skin oils can affect measurement accuracy. After installation, perform a qualifying run with the CMM's calibration sphere before beginning part measurement.
