The RENISHAW A-5003-0049 is a CMM ball stylus designed for use with coordinate measuring machines in precision metrology applications. It features a 5 mm ruby ball tip mounted on a solid carbide stem, threaded M2 for secure attachment to compatible CMM probe heads and extensions. The ruby ball delivers consistent surface contact and wear resistance across repeated measurement cycles. With an overall length of 50 mm and an effective working length of 50 mm, this stylus suits a wide range of part geometries encountered in dimensional inspection work. Metrology technicians and CMM operators install and qualify this stylus as part of a calibrated probing system.
This stylus is suited for use in quality control labs, production inspection environments, and toolroom metrology setups where dimensional accuracy is critical. The M2 thread interface is a common standard across many CMM probe systems, making this stylus compatible with a broad range of probe bodies and extension configurations. It is appropriate for measuring bores, slots, surfaces, and complex features on machined components. The 2.50 mm stem diameter supports stiffness in the working length range, reducing deflection error during touch-trigger probing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or system component for CMM probing setups utilizing M2-threaded probe bodies and stylus extensions standard in coordinate measuring machine configurations.
CMM styli are installed and qualified by metrology technicians or CMM programmers following machine manufacturer guidelines. Before replacing or installing a stylus, ensure the CMM is in a safe parked or powered-down state per the equipment manufacturer's procedure. Handle the ruby ball carefully to avoid chipping or contamination, as surface damage will compromise measurement accuracy. After installation, perform a full stylus qualification routine using the machine's reference sphere before committing the stylus to production measurement.
