The RENISHAW A-5003-0033 is a CMM ball stylus designed for coordinate measuring machine probing applications. It features a 1 mm ruby ball tip mounted on a solid carbide stem with M2 thread connection. The overall length is 20 mm, with an effective working length of 12.70 mm. Ruby is the preferred ball material for CMM work due to its hardness, dimensional stability, and low adhesion to most workpiece surfaces. Carbide provides a rigid, low-deflection stem that preserves measurement accuracy. This stylus is installed by CMM operators and metrology technicians in quality control and inspection environments.
This stylus is suited for measuring fine features, small bores, and tight-tolerance surfaces on production and inspection CMMs in both shop-floor and lab settings. The M2 thread is a standard CMM probe interface, making this stylus compatible with M2-threaded probe heads and extension systems commonly used in dimensional inspection setups. Its compact 20 mm overall length suits applications where clearance is limited or stylus mass must be minimized to reduce measurement error.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit stylus for CMM probe systems using M2-threaded connections.
CMM styli are installed and changed by metrology technicians or CMM operators. Power down or pause the CMM program before changing styli to prevent uncontrolled probe movement. Thread the M2 connection by hand until snug - avoid over-torquing, which can damage the thread or shift the ball position. After installation, perform a stylus qualification routine to calibrate the new ball center offset before taking measurements.
