The RENISHAW A-5000-7555 is a CMM ball stylus designed for coordinate measuring machine probing applications. It features a 6 mm ruby ball tip mounted on a stainless steel stem with an M4 thread connection and an overall length of 17 mm (approximately 0.67 inches). Ruby is the preferred ball material for CMM styli because of its hardness, dimensional stability, and resistance to wear, making it well suited for high-accuracy dimensional inspection work. This stylus is installed by metrology technicians and quality lab personnel who require repeatable contact-point geometry on CMM probing systems.
This stylus is used in dimensional inspection environments where a compact, short-reach probe tip is required. The 17 mm overall length suits tight-clearance measurement scenarios on workpieces where a longer stylus would introduce bending error or vibration. The M4 threaded shank is a widely adopted connection standard in CMM probing, making this stylus compatible with a broad range of Renishaw and compatible probe bodies used in quality control labs, machine shop inspection stations, and manufacturing floor measurement cells.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-service stylus for CMM probe systems using M4 threaded stylus connections. Specific system compatibility should be confirmed against the probe body manufacturer specifications before installation.
CMM styli are installed and replaced by metrology technicians or qualified CMM operators. Before replacing a stylus, power down or pause the CMM and follow the machine manufacturer lockout procedure to prevent uncontrolled probe movement. Use the appropriate stylus wrench or torque tool as specified by the probe body manufacturer - do not overtighten by hand, as this can damage the M4 thread or shift the ball seating. After installation, re-qualify the stylus using the machine calibration sphere before resuming inspection routines.
