The REIFF NESTOR 46162 is a standard NPT pipe tap designed to cut 1/16-27 tapered pipe threads in metal workpieces. Built from high-speed steel with a nitride finish, this tap delivers the hardness and surface lubricity needed for threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4-flute configuration provides balanced cutting action and adequate chip clearance for through and blind hole applications. With a thread length of 0.6875 inches and a regular chamfer, the 46162 suits production and maintenance threading tasks where consistent, leak-free pipe thread engagement is required. Licensed tradespeople and machinists use this tap when fabricating or repairing NPT-threaded pipe connections in HVAC, plumbing, and industrial piping systems.
The 46162 is intended for cutting 1/16-27 NPT threads, the smallest standard tapered pipe thread size in the NPT series. This size is common in instrumentation ports, pressure fittings, small-bore gas and fluid connections, and pneumatic component housings. The regular chamfer style makes it appropriate for through-hole threading where a gradual thread lead-in is acceptable. With a shank diameter of 0.3125 inches and a square drive size of 0.234 inches, the tap fits standard tap wrenches and machine spindles suited for this thread class.
Designed for cutting 1/16-27 NPT tapered pipe threads in standard tapping operations. Fits tap wrenches and machine tool spindles sized for a 0.3125-inch shank diameter with a 0.234-inch square drive.
Pipe taps are installed by machinists and pipefitters using manual tap wrenches or machine tapping heads. Always drill the correct NPT tap drill size for the 1/16-27 thread before tapping to avoid tap breakage. Apply cutting fluid rated for the workpiece material throughout the threading operation. Back the tap out periodically to clear chips, especially in blind holes, and never force a tap against resistance.
