The REGAL CUTTING TOOLS 025493AS is a straight flute hand tap designed for cutting M20x2 Metric Fine internal threads in through-holes and blind holes where a bottoming chamfer is required. Manufactured from High-Speed Steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap is built for threading ferrous and non-ferrous materials in production and maintenance applications. With 4 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it suits general-purpose tapping operations where chip evacuation through the flute path is acceptable. The D6 thread limit designation indicates a Class 6H tolerance, appropriate for standard metric thread fits.
This tap is used in machining and fabrication environments where M20x2 Metric Fine threads are specified. The bottoming chamfer - typically 1 to 2 threads of lead - allows threading to within a short distance of a blind hole bottom, making it the go-to choice for finishing passes after a taper or plug tap has started the thread. It is appropriate for manual tapping with a tap wrench or use in a controlled low-speed machine tapping setup. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for M20x2 Metric Fine bottoming taps in standard tap wrench or machine tapping setups that accept a 0.652-inch shank diameter.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should select cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before beginning. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is started perpendicular to the hole surface to avoid thread damage or tap breakage. When used in a blind hole, clear chips frequently by backing the tap out in increments. Do not force the tap past the thread run-out; the bottoming chamfer provides minimal lead and is intended as a finishing tap, not a starting tap.
