The REGAL CUTTING TOOLS 020695AS is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting M42x4.50 metric coarse internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable performance in production and maintenance machining environments. With 6 flutes and a D10 thread limit, it is suited for applications requiring close tolerance control and chip management in through-hole or blind-hole threading operations. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to the bottom of blind holes where clearance is limited. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is intended for use in manual or CNC tapping operations where M42x4.50 metric coarse threads are specified. It is well suited for heavy equipment manufacturing, mold and die work, structural fabrication, and industrial maintenance applications that require large-diameter threading. The straight flute geometry works best in shorter chipping materials such as cast iron and brass, though it is also used in through-hole applications in steel with proper cutting fluid. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for any application requiring M42x4.50 metric coarse bottoming taps in manual tap handles, CNC tapping chucks, or floating tap holders with appropriate drive square engagement.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with large-diameter tapping operations. Always secure the workpiece and verify spindle alignment before engaging the tap to prevent tool breakage or thread damage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil compatible with the workpiece material, and back off regularly to break chips when tapping in steel. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use, as large-diameter taps are subject to significant torque loads.
