The REGAL CUTTING TOOLS 011191AS is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 8-24 UNS internal threads in a bottoming chamfer configuration. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap is suited for threading operations that require the thread to extend as close to the bottom of a blind hole as possible. The 4-flute straight-flute geometry provides good chip control in a variety of workpiece materials. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a thread length of 0.75 inches, making it a compact tool for tight-clearance tapping work. Thread direction is right-hand and thread limit is H3, appropriate for standard tolerance threading applications.
This tap is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments where 8-24 UNS threads are required. The bottoming chamfer style makes it the correct choice when a through tap or plug tap has already started the thread and the full thread depth must reach near the base of a blind hole. It is installed and driven by hand using a tap wrench, making it well suited for repair work, prototype builds, and low-volume production where CNC tooling is not required. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary users of this tap style.
Designed to cut 8-24 UNS right-hand internal threads. Intended for use with standard hand tap wrenches sized for taps in the No. 8 range. Suitable as a bottoming follow-up tap after plug or taper tap pre-threading of blind holes.
This tap is a hand-driven cutting tool and does not involve electrical, gas, or fluid systems. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is started perpendicular to the workpiece surface. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and reduce the risk of breakage. Never force a tap against resistance in a blind hole, as HSS taps are brittle under torque overload and can break flush with the workpiece surface.
