The REGAL CUTTING TOOLS 011149AS is a bottoming hand tap designed for cutting 1-5/8-12 UNS internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread form in through-hole and bottom-hole applications. The 6-flute straight flute configuration reduces cutting force per flute and improves chip control in short-chipping materials. With an overall length of 6-11/16 inches and a thread length of 3-3/16 inches, it fits standard tap handles and machine setups. Thread limit is H4, indicating a close-tolerance fit appropriate for precision threading work. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in manual and semi-automated operations.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading where a bottoming chamfer is required to cut threads to the full depth of a blind hole. The UNS thread standard applies to specialized and non-standard diameter-pitch combinations used in industrial, aerospace, and heavy equipment applications. The right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional threading with a tap wrench or tapping head. It is appropriate for use in machine shops, field maintenance environments, and manufacturing lines where 1-5/8-12 UNS threads are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use hand tap for applications requiring 1-5/8-12 UNS right-hand internal threads with a bottoming chamfer.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench or manual tapping fixture. The workpiece should be secured firmly and the tap aligned perpendicular to the hole before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Never force a tap in reverse to break chips without adequate lubrication, and inspect flutes for wear or loading before each use.
