The REGAL CUTTING TOOLS 010397AS is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal threads in ductile metals without cutting or removing material. Operating through cold-working displacement, this tap generates stronger threads by work-hardening the base material. It carries a 7/16-14 UNC thread specification with a 2B class of fit and an H5 thread limit. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it is built for precision blind hole threading applications. Licensed tradespeople and machinists install this tap in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-tapping setups where thread integrity is a priority.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in ductile ferrous and non-ferrous metals where chip-free thread forming is required. The bottoming chamfer profile allows threads to be formed close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance assemblies in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair operations. Its right-hand thread direction and UNC specification align with standard inch-series fastener requirements common in general industrial and mechanical applications. It belongs to the Met-Flo series, which is optimized for forming threads in materials such as aluminum, mild steel, brass, and similar workable alloys.
Designed as an OEM-style thread forming tap for blind hole applications requiring a 7/16-14 UNC thread profile with a 2B class of fit in ductile materials.
This tap should be installed and operated by machinists or qualified trade professionals familiar with tapping procedures and speeds appropriate for thread forming tools. Ensure the workpiece is properly secured and that the correct tap drill size for a forming tap is used, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps for the same thread size. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or lubricant for the workpiece material before and during tapping. Never force a forming tap into a blind hole beyond its thread length or attempt to use it in brittle materials such as cast iron.
