The RECTORSEAL 97024 is a 4-inch PVC extendable backwater valve designed to prevent sewage from backing up into a residence or commercial building when a sewer system becomes plugged, experiences excess flow volume, or is overwhelmed by groundwater flooding. Constructed of PVC and supplied with an inground flapper, this valve installs discretely outside the structure at depths up to 12 feet below ground level, eliminating the need for manholes or indoor access panels. Licensed plumbers install this valve as a code-compliant safeguard in gravity-drain sewer laterals.
The 97024 is suited for residential and light commercial applications where sewer backup protection is required without sacrificing serviceability. Because the valve installs outside and below grade, maintenance access is above ground and outdoors, removing the sewer odor and confined-space issues associated with indoor backwater valve installations. The extendable design accommodates varying burial depths, making it adaptable to a range of site conditions and local code requirements.
Key Features
Prevents sewage backup caused by sewer blockage, flow surcharge, or groundwater flooding
Installs outside below grade up to 12 feet deep - no manholes required
Above-ground outdoor access point simplifies inspection and maintenance
Includes inground flapper - no additional check components needed
PVC construction for corrosion resistance in underground sewer environments
Discrete installation eliminates indoor access panels and associated odor during service
Compatibility
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation backwater valve for 4-inch gravity-drain sewer lateral lines in residential and light commercial plumbing systems.
Installation Notes
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off all drain flow to the lateral and confirm the line is clear before excavating and setting the valve. The valve must be oriented correctly to allow the flapper to seat and seal against reverse flow - do not install in the wrong flow direction. Backfill carefully around the PVC body to avoid cracking the valve housing during compaction.
