The PROTO J86A3/16S2 is a cold chisel designed for cutting, shaping, and chipping hardened materials including metal, concrete, and masonry. Built with a steel handle and a 1/4 inch tip, this chisel delivers controlled force transfer for precision material removal. The full black oxide finish provides corrosion resistance, extending service life in demanding job site conditions. At 0.08 pounds and approximately 4.9 inches in length, it is a compact, lightweight tool suited for tight-access work. Ironworkers, pipefitters, millwrights, and general tradespeople keep this size on hand for punching, scaling, and deburring tasks.
The J86A3/16S2 is intended for use in metalworking, plumbing rough-in, and general construction applications where a small-diameter cold chisel is required. The 3/16 inch stock size and 1/4 inch tip make it well suited for light-to-medium stock removal, slot cutting, and bolt head removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is appropriate for both shop use and field service work across residential and light commercial job sites.
Designed as a standard cold chisel for general trade use with metal, concrete, and masonry materials where a 3/16 inch stock, 1/4 inch tip cold chisel is specified.
Cold chisels are struck with a ball-peen or engineer's hammer — never use a claw hammer. Always wear safety glasses when chiseling metal or masonry, as fragments can eject at high velocity. Inspect the chisel head for mushrooming before each use and dress any deformed edges with a file or grinder before striking. This tool does not require power disconnection for use, but standard job site PPE including gloves and eye protection applies at all times.
