The PROTO J5012 is a 12-point deep hand socket with a 3/8 inch drive, designed for professional hand-tool use in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical service applications. Built from polished steel, the J5012 measures 2-1/8 inches in overall length, giving technicians the reach needed to seat fasteners located in recessed or obstructed positions. The 12-point geometry engages hex fasteners from multiple entry angles, reducing rethreading time in tight quarters. This socket meets ASME B107.110-2012, AS4984A, and SAE AS954G standards, making it appropriate for professional trade use where tool certification matters.
The J5012 is suited for residential and commercial service work where standard-length sockets cannot reach deeply set fasteners. Common applications include equipment panel fasteners, motor mounts, pipe flange bolts, and enclosure hardware across HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades. The deep-length design is particularly useful on threaded rod or long-shank bolt applications. This socket is sized for hand-drive use only and is not tether capable, which should be considered in elevated or overhead work scenarios.
Designed as a standard 3/8 inch drive deep hand socket compatible with 3/8 inch drive hand ratchets, extension bars, and torque wrenches conforming to ASME B107 tool standards.
Install and remove using a 3/8 inch drive hand ratchet or torque wrench rated for the fastener specification being serviced. Confirm the socket is fully seated on the fastener before applying torque to prevent rounding. Power down or de-energize equipment per applicable NEC, IFGC, or IPC requirements before accessing fasteners on live systems. This socket is not rated for impact driver use — use impact-rated sockets for pneumatic or cordless impact applications.
