The PROMAX US556161 is a single-end corner radius end mill engineered for demanding metal-removal applications in production and job-shop environments. Machined from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a PROMAX PowerLayer coating, it delivers a 3/4 inch (0.75 inch) cutting diameter and a 2 inch length of cut at a 38-degree high-helix angle. Five right-hand flutes with a normal pitch and spiral flute geometry support both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool. The 0.125 inch corner radius reduces stress concentration at the tool corner, extending edge life on abrasive workpiece materials. Overall length is 4 inches, and the straight-cylindrical shank measures 1/2 inch in diameter for straightforward toolholder mounting.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium across ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. It is appropriate for vertical machining centers, horizontal mills, and multi-axis platforms where a centercutting tool is needed for plunge entry or slot initiation. The high-helix geometry promotes chip evacuation in deep pockets and side-milling operations on hard or gummy alloys. The PowerLayer coating provides thermal stability and wear resistance in high-surface-speed applications where uncoated carbide would break down prematurely.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO P, M, K, S). Part of the PROMAX Series US556 corner radius end mill family.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with CNC or manual milling operations. Secure the 1/2 inch shank in a collet chuck, end mill holder, or hydraulic toolholder rated for the application before starting the spindle. Confirm runout at the cutting edge with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates uneven flute wear. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the target workpiece material.
