The PROMAX US556081 is a single-end corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a PROMAX PowerLayer coating, this tool delivers both roughing and finishing capability in a single pass. The 0.2500 inch mill diameter pairs with a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 2 inch overall length. The 5-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a high helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and surface quality. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this cutter in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is suited for use in ferrous and exotic-alloy environments including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The short-length design improves rigidity during aggressive cuts in these hard-to-machine materials. It mounts in a standard toolholder accepting a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The corner radius geometry reduces edge chipping at part corners, making it a practical choice for mold work, die work, and general precision component machining where sharp inside corners must be avoided. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines where the US556 series geometry and PowerLayer coating are specified for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
