The PROMAX 156-32024 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) diameter with a matching 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 0.0200 inch corner radius. The four-flute, single-end design supports both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool. An AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life when cutting ferrous and high-strength materials. Overall length is 2.5 inches. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the toughness and rigidity needed to maintain tight tolerances at elevated cutting speeds.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and milling operations targeting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The corner radius geometry reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, which helps prevent chipping when transitioning between axial and radial cuts. The high helix angle and coarse pitch promote efficient chip evacuation in these difficult-to-machine materials. It is appropriate for both production shops and tool rooms running short-run precision work requiring a controlled corner break or blend radius.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 5/16 inch cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as specified by the manufacturer for Series 156.
Installation and tool changes must be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the cutting tip before beginning a production run. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material grade being cut.
