The PROMAX 112-01612 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal, composites, and engineered plastics. It features a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating that increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The tool is built from micrograin carbide, which supports tighter tolerances and longer tool life compared to standard carbide grades. With a 0.25 inch cutting diameter and a 40-degree helix angle, this end mill is well suited for high-speed finishing passes and light-to-moderate slotting and peripheral milling. Machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers specify this style for close-tolerance work on vertical mills and machining centers.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers, vertical knee mills, and toolroom applications where a short-length regular series tool is appropriate. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry in addition to standard peripheral cuts, which is useful in die and mold work, fixture machining, and general metalworking. The right-hand cut with right-hand spiral fluting is the standard configuration for conventional and climb milling on most production setups. It is a single-end tool with a square shank and is sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-specification solid carbide square end mill for use in standard 1/4 inch collets, ER collet chucks, and hydraulic or shrink-fit toolholders with a 0.25 inch bore, compatible with vertical CNC machining centers and manual knee mills accepting 1/4 inch shank tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. The spindle must be fully stopped and the machine powered down before changing tooling. Insert the shank fully into the collet or toolholder, leaving no more shank exposed than necessary, and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and reduce dimensional accuracy.
