The PRIME LINE PRODUCTS N 7331 is a drive-in brass ball catch designed to provide a spring-loaded latching system for doors that do not require a standard knob latch bolt. Constructed of diecast and steel components, this ball catch features a barrel measuring 0.75 inches by 1.1875 inches, housing a steel ball and spring along with a strike plate. The unit installs flush and remains fully concealed once set, making it suitable for finish-sensitive applications. Carpenters, millwork installers, and general contractors install this hardware as part of interior door hardware packages.
The N 7331 is commonly used on pairs of swinging double doors fitted with dummy knob hardware, where no active latch bolt is needed. The drive-in installation method requires no mortising beyond a drilled hole, making it practical for new construction and retrofit applications. Each package contains 6 units, sold as a set, making it appropriate for multi-door installations or stocking by hardware distributors and building supply operations.
Designed as an OEM-style drive-in ball catch for swinging double doors using dummy knob hardware where a standard latch bolt is not required or desired.
Installation is performed by carpenters or general contractors and requires drilling a bore hole sized to accept the 0.75-inch by 1.1875-inch barrel before driving the catch into place. Power down or disconnect any associated electronic hardware before working on door assemblies in commercial or automated door applications. Confirm bore hole depth and diameter match barrel dimensions before driving to avoid splitting the door edge. The strike plate should be mortised flush into the door jamb or opposing door face per standard finish carpentry practice.
