The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001461 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metal fabrication, aerospace maintenance, and general industrial applications. It carries a No. 14 wire gauge size with a decimal diameter of 0.182 inches and an overall length of 6 inches, giving technicians the reach needed for deep or obstructed drilling locations. The 135-degree split point geometry is self-centering, eliminating the need for a center punch on most metals and reducing walking on entry. An oxide finish provides corrosion resistance and mild lubricity during cutting. This bit belongs to PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series 501-6 and is built for right-hand cutting with a two-flute spiral configuration.
This drill bit is suited for use on aircraft-grade aluminum, mild steel, and similar materials where extended reach and controlled entry are required. The 2.1875-inch flute length supports chip evacuation in deeper holes, while the tapered web with web thinning reduces thrust requirements during drilling. Maintenance technicians, aircraft mechanics, and metalworking shops that regularly work in confined or deep-access locations will find the 6-inch extension body practical for production and repair work. It conforms to NAS 907 Type B standards, making it appropriate for applications where that specification is called out.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use aircraft extension drill bit for applications requiring NAS 907 Type B compliance and a No. 14 wire gauge diameter in a 6-inch extended-length format.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, or metalworkers using a standard drill press, hand drill, or pneumatic drill motor with a compatible chuck. Secure the workpiece before drilling and confirm chuck grip on the full shank before applying power. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend bit life and reduce heat. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
