The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001288 is a 1/8-inch diameter aircraft extension drill bit engineered for deep-reach drilling in metalworking and aerospace-maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, it features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering and eliminates the need for a center punch on most metal surfaces. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation during extended drilling cycles. At 6 inches overall length with a 1-5/8-inch flute length, this bit provides the reach required for structural and aircraft sheet-metal work while maintaining a compact 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in steel, aluminum, and similar metals where standard-length bits cannot access the work zone. The extended reach makes it practical for airframe repair, HVAC sheet-metal fabrication, automotive bodywork, and any trade application requiring drilling through confined or recessed structures. It is sold individually and carries the NAS 907 Type B standard designation, making it appropriate for use in applications where that specification is required. Machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and sheet-metal workers are the primary installers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use drill bit for applications requiring a 1/8-inch diameter, 6-inch overall length aircraft extension drill conforming to NAS 907 Type B. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, or sheet-metal workers using a drill press, hand drill, or pneumatic drill motor with a chuck rated for 1/8-inch straight shanks. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and use appropriate cutting fluid on ferrous materials to extend tool life. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged point will reduce self-centering performance and increase the risk of workpiece damage.
