The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001125 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in machine shop and industrial maintenance applications. It measures 0.4531 inches (29/64 inch) in diameter with a 1MT (Morse Taper 1) shank, making it compatible with drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a matching taper socket. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide finish that provides basic corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. The 118-degree standard point angle suits a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Overall length is 7.5 inches with a flute length of 4.125 inches.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in shops using taper-socket spindle machines. The 1MT shank seats directly into compatible Morse Taper No. 1 spindle sockets or sleeves without a chuck. The spiral flute pattern is a regular right-hand configuration, promoting chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications on mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials. The web-thinned point reduces thrust requirements at the cutting tip, which is useful when drilling on manual or lower-powered machines. This bit conforms to ANSI standards and is part of Precision Twist Drill Series 209.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines fitted with a Morse Taper No. 1 (1MT) spindle socket or sleeve. No chuck adapter is required when the machine spindle matches the 1MT designation.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with taper-shank tooling. Ensure the spindle socket and taper shank are clean and free of chips or oil before seating the bit, as contamination will prevent full taper engagement and can cause bit slippage under load. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. A taper drift is the correct tool for ejecting a Morse Taper shank from a spindle socket.
